About Our Presenters

Lauren Boucher is a Regional Consultant for Digital Teaching and Learning with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. She holds a master's degree in elementary education and boasts a rich teaching background, including third-grade instruction and gifted education at both elementary and middle school levels. Her expertise also extends to serving as an Instructional Technology Specialist for Pitt County Schools and she shares her insights through both in-person and online presentations at conferences across the nation.

Natalie Mitchell is a literacy consultant who has worked as a staff development expert and literacy coach for over a decade. With her foundational roots in elementary education, she helps educators develop powerful teaching practices while growing a love for literacy in their classrooms. Natalie holds a master's degree in educational leadership, and she works alongside literacy coaches, campus leadership teams, and program directors to strengthen community and school culture.

Dr. Kris Mitzner brings over three decades of educational expertise to her role as a seasoned educator and public speaker. With a diverse background in educational leadership as a principal for both elementary and junior high, along with teaching experience spanning from kindergarten to fifth grade, Kris has honed her skills in fostering academic excellence and nurturing young minds. Her presentations have been featured at education conferences nationwide, including ASCD, NAESP, and NASSP. Recently embarking on a well-deserved retirement, Kris now dedicates her time to writing, inspiring through speaking engagements, mentoring aspiring educators, and exploring the world through travel.

Rachel Scott serves as the K-5 Literacy Instructional Specialist at Frostwood Elementary in Houston, Texas. With a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, she has spent four years leading literacy initiatives at the district level, guiding a team of literacy coaches through a district-wide overhaul of literacy instructional practices. Rachel’s commitment to literacy was further ignited after completing the Texas Reading Academies and IMSE Orton Gillingham Training. Through her work on campus, at the district level, and in online presentations, Rachel tirelessly works to bolster teacher confidence and proficiency in primary literacy skills. Her passion and expertise make her an invaluable resource for educators seeking to elevate their literacy instruction.

Reba Gordon Matthews is an Educational Consultant with Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt and a freelance coach and instructional designer. She has over 20 years of teaching experience and holds master’s degrees in instructional design and educational technology. Reba is also the co-founder and executive director of The Jamal Gordon Hill Foundation. This organization supports at-risk young people with academic tutoring, technology training, and college scholarships.

Join Reba Gordon Matthews as she shares a variety of strategies that can improve teacher-parent interactions and begin to experience a better level of parent engagement. You will also walk away with tools to design a communication plan that values diversity, equity, and inclusion and keeps parents/guardians abreast of their child’s progress and challenges.

Identify the different methods and tools that can be used to communicate with parents/guardians.
